Director's Notes

Now more than ever we need Christmas. Now more than ever we need to feel the joy of the season. Now more than ever we need to feel connected to our family and friends.

Now more than ever, we need ‘A Christmas Carol’!

This story remains true to the words of Charles Dickens and has impacted me more this year during the rehearsal process then it has in any other year. All of us in this production recognize the importance of you coming and spending your valuable time with us especially during a year of such uncertainty. It is our job to take you away from the world of uncertainty even for just a couple of hours.

We want you to feel the heart of the story - the message of this story – in a way that you never have before. This is an opportunity for all of us to seek the happiness and joy of the season that Scrooge finds in the final moments of ‘A Christmas Carol’. We hope and pray that you will find Christmas in your heart and try to keep it all the year!

I feel so blessed to be a part of such a wonderful production. Blessed to work with some of the most talented people that the theatre community has to offer. Anne Puzey, our music director provides us meticulous attention to detail when it comes to the vocals of this production. Amelia Rose Moore, our choreographer, understands this show is told as much in movement as in words. Kacey Udy and his team have created a stage and an atmosphere that transports us to London in 1843 in the blink of an eye. Finally, many, many thanks to Megan Johnson, who reminds us all to keep the Christmas spirit alive and never trouble ourselves with all the moving parts behind the scenes.

Mark and Sally Dietlein have given me an opportunity over the last 17 years to be the Director of this show and it has changed my life. I am so thankful to them and all who make up the Hale family for taking me into their arms so many years ago. I am so very grateful.

Finally, a special thanks to my wife, Ally Sweeney and our children, JJ and Charlotte, without you, this would all be meaningless.

‘God Bless Us! God Bless Us Everyone!’

— John J. Sweeney, Director
